Fourteen Shetland Amateur Athletics Club athletes travelled down to Inverness last weekend to compete in the second Youth Development League competition as part of the Isles Select team along with Orkney and the Western Isles. They took part in track and field events in all age groups from under 13 to under 17, some having to double up to events they don't usually do just to gain points for the team.

At the end of the day, the U13/U15 team finished in third place out of the 8 teams, just behind Dundee Hawkhill Harriers and Inverness Harriers. The third Youth Development League takes place in June, before the top teams are invited to compete in the final in August.
The athletes and coaches would like to thank Serco Northlink Ferries, without whose generous sponsorship, participation in the league would not be possible
